A bibliography is an alphabetical list of all the works you have cited to get information about your topic. It can be a magazine, book, encyclopedia etc. If you have worked tediously on your topic and you want the reader to consider you legit, resourceful and honest, never forget to do this last bit of work and learn how to write a bibliography. It may sound boring because of its nature but on the contrary, writing a bibliography can be more fulfilling experience for you and for the reader to understand the nature of the text.

Following are the 9 easy steps on how to write an annotated bibliography;

1. ARRANGE THE CITATIONS ACCORDING TO THE SOURCE

There is a different format to cite different resources. Keep these formats in mind before you write and follow them to effectively construct the bibliography.

A) Books

Format:

Author's last name, first name. Book title. Additional information. City of publication: publishing Company, publication date.

B) Encyclopedia & Dictionary

Format:

Author's last name, first name. "Title of Article”. Title of Encyclopedia. Date.
Note: If the dictionary or encyclopedia organizes articles alphabetically, you may leave out volume and page numbers.

C) Magazine & Newspaper Articles
Format:

Author's last name, first name. "Article title". Periodical title Volume # Date: inclusive pages.

Note: If an edition is named on the masthead, add a comma after the date and specify the edition

D) Website or Webpage

Format:

Author's last name, first name (if available). "Title of work within a project or database." Title of site, project, or database. Editor (if available). Electronic publication data (Date of publication or of the latest updates, and name of any sponsoring institution or organization). Date of access and .

Note: If you cannot find some of this information, cite what is available.

2. ALWAYS KEEP THE RECORD

Don’t wait until the end of your research to write down your resources. Make it a work in progress and shape it while you are working on your research and look up. Always Keep track of where you got the sources from and make sure that you maintain a record file for all of them. This will save you time and a lot of extra workload in the end.

3. DON’T FORGET THE BASICS

Your list of works cited should begin at the end of the paper, on a new page with the title in the centre. Don’t overlook anything, include every source you have cited .Don’t ignore the aesthetics. Always use hanging indentations i.e. if two or more lines are to be used the second line should be indented 1/2” to the right side. Use lowercase abbreviations to identify the parts of a work (e.g., vol. for volume, ed. for editor)

4. NAMES OF THE AUTHORS

Always arrange the names of the authors alphabetically. If author name is not given, alphabetize by the title of the publication. For multiple writers write three names and use et al. (and all other) for the rest. Write the complete name of the author with any status like Junior or Senior, if applicable. You should never include the author's titles that refer to his or her job like MD, or PhD.

5. DATES

Always abbreviate the months except for May, June, July. Use either of these formats (DD/MM/YYYY) or (MM/DD/YYYY) and make sure you Choose one and use one. Be consistent. If you do not have the date of publication, you can use the abbreviation n.d (no date). If there are many dates, most recent date of publication should be used. If you are utilizing weekly publications as your resource, you should use the date/month/year format. For seasonal or quarterly publications, use the month and year format.

6. PAGE NUMBERS

Always assume the reader is going to verify your reference and include the page numbers for books if you have used only a part of the book. In case the page number is not available, you use the term n. page (no page). If the page numbers are not in sequence because of advertisements, then you should only use the first page number and add the plus (+) sign after that.

7. TITLES

Only use the title that is mentioned on the book or the research paper. Either you underline the titles and subtitles of all the publications or use italics. Again don’t ignore anything. Even include the name of the low scale newspaper if using it as a resource. The first letter of the title and subtitle should always be in capital letters.

8. PLACE OF PUBLICATION

Writing the country name is contract indicated. Only use the name of the city or the town. Name should be used only when you refer to books and not for any other publication. If you do not have the name of the city or town, abbreviations can be used n.p (no place). You should use names of cities along with the state, only if the name is confusing or the city is not renowned.

The city should be stated in square parenthesis [] after the name of the newspaper. Many papers use the name of the city, mention the name if it doesn't.

9. PUBLISHER NAMES

The name of the publisher should be shortened. For example, you should use McMahon and not McMahon Publishing Co. If there is more than one publisher, you have to mention all of them in a sequential order along with the year of each publication.

Learning how to write a bibliography might take its toll and writing as well bibliography but it is an important step that can’t be ignored. By following the above steps, you’ll be able to create a great bibliography that properly cites your sources!

The most important reason why you need to learn how to write annotated bibliography is that you have used information and research that someone else had put together and not giving them the credit, will be considered stealing. Obviously, you don’t want to be infamous but famous.

“Having a good discussion is like having riches”, Anonymous

The idea of discussion is as old as civilization itself. Nations were always given two choices: Table talks or swords with rocks. Smart ones opted for the former and they survived. The other faction either vanished or the history wrote them off. They tried to force their opinions and beliefs on others but nature had some different plans for them.

So, would you like to force your dissertation results and observations or take the people through them with a discussion and convince them? I am sure you will make the smarter choice and choose to concentrate on your dissertation discussions chapter. You cannot force your opinion, not only because everyone differs to it in one way or the other but also because you may be wrong.

So let’s talk about dissertation discussions a little bit. When you are writing a dissertation discussion chapter it should include these essential components.

Some outcomes of your work.
Further explanation using statistics in your work, some observations and surveys.
Some problems you faced during the research.
Suggest proposals for further research.

AIMS OF DISCUSSION
“The aim of argument, or of discussion, should not be victory, but progress”, Joseph Joubert

When you write a dissertation discussion, always maintain a neutral stance and review your own findings and suggestions. Don’t try to force your readers towards your side of the court; instead the discussion should be the interpretation of the outcomes. Play your part by stating and explaining the results and their significance to the readers.

There is a strong bond between the results and dissertation discussion, they are usually situated together and assembled in the same way. To further enlighten the reader, also include the process of data collection and the reasons why you chose it.

The dissertation discussion should be held in a well-built connection with your thesis. It is important because it reflects how your results back or fail to back your findings. In case you have mistaken in some pre-calculated outcomes; you have to provide description for them. Stay closer to literature review and propose plans for further researches.

QUANTITATIVE

If you have conducted a quantitative study and you don’t know how to write a dissertation discussion chapter, here are some guidelines.

Quantitative results are the study of statistics and all kinds of testing, surveys and observations conducted throughout the research. Writing your dissertation discussions the aim is to relate them to the wider problem region. Furthermore, in a quantitative study you have to raise the questions and then discuss them and give answers. You have to relate all the data to the practical world to ensure a proper understanding for the reader.

QUALITATIVE

The qualitative results are an abstract of the key results of the dissertation and the discussion has to give a full and actual review about them. Just you’re your quantitative findings and dissertation discussions, this kind of explanation should stay close to the dissertation research questions and the hypnotic structure provided by the literature review.

In your dissertation discussions pay special attention to the astonishing and unforeseen results and leave your comments about them and suggest some further research proposals as well.

Every great piece of knowledge comes through three steps, Idea, research and discussion. Without a discussion the ideas of your research and its results will run wild and it won’t be able to precipitate the kind of response you want.

Everything should have a logical beginning and a logical end. You know that thing about logic. It applies to everything. When an athlete is running to the finish line he throws in every bit of his energy in the end because it’s always a close call of who the winner is. So conclusion is important because it completes the content and provides a sense of totality to the work. But on the contrary it has been observed that students don’t pay attention to the dissertation conclusion chapter.

This article is bound to teach you how to write a dissertation conclusion. The basic idea is to provide the readers with results of the research, summarizing all the findings. It should be short but elaboration. It should cover all the answers to the questions raised in the body of the dissertation.

DON’T LOOSE FOCUS

Sometimes students start overemphasizing on only one factor and forget the rest which turns out to be bad for their dissertation. While writing dissertation conclusion always stay focused and talk about everything you have in your piece with a balance among them, prioritizing the key material. You cannot afford to divert readers' attention from the arguments you've developed.
ASSERT THE IMPORTANCE

Whenever you have to write a dissertation conclusion make sure it brings out the importance of your work and shows how you have helped to bring about a change, doesn't matter how small. See if you have provided the answers to the questions at the back of their minds regarding the topic. You should maintain congruence in your content and conclusion. Add some facts and figures from your findings. It will add to your credibility.

PROVIDE ANSWERS NOT QUESTIONS

Unlike the introduction your dissertation conclusion should be focused on the answers not questions. It should be well connected to the introduction because initially most readers will just take a look at your introduction and conclusion and if they are not co related, it will put a bad impression on the reader. Remember readers are always looking for answers not questions.

A FUTURISTIC VIEW

Some people say a good movie; book etc is one which makes you think when you are through it. So when writing dissertation conclusion always remembers to give the reader something to think about. This can work two ways. 1. You can mask the deficiencies of your work 2. The reader will have you on his mind for a long period of time. This will provide an edge to your conclusion.

BE TRUTHFUL

Keep in mind that the assertion is not fake and you have not declared anything as your finding when its not. Doing this will flip your readers right away and he will never listen to any argument whatsoever. Besides it can be illegal and you might end up messing it only because of a small mistake, wasting all the toil you have put in your work.

I hope the above suggestions will only bring you good things and help you write a good conclusion for your dissertation.

Submitting a dissertation has become regular practice for completion of any degree nowadays. It is the most important work for scoring a good grade for any degree. But how should it be done? How should you choose the topic and conduct the research. If you think you will go to a library or a website and start looking for books or articles and read all of them analyze them and put the information on paper and get your desired grades, wake up. You need a dissertation writing guide.

The section below is a dissertation guide which will help you improve your writing skills. Unlike most dissertation writing guides who just give you an overview, this guide will provide you in depth details of everything you need for your dissertation.

1. CHOOSING A TOPIC

The following part of this dissertation guide will help you to choose a topic keeping Interest, feasibility and benefits in mind. The rule of thumb is to follow two basic rules while making your choice.

SELECT
Never choose a topic for which a lot of matter doesn’t exist or cannot be collected. Don’t choose a topic you know you can’t justify. Instead, listen to your heart and choose a topic which you are interested in. If you choose a topic just because you want good grades without any interest; then you are deluding. The advisor or reader will always know about your lack of interest, the last thing you want.

CROSS CHECK THE TOPIC

Once selected cross check your topic. Search carefully about any work done on this topic and the dimensions of those works. It’s unusual that a topic has been worked on in all directions. Most often you will find an angle which was missed by previous researchers but if you can’t, don’t be disheartened and choose another topic.

2. RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS

In this section of the dissertation guide you will learn how to conduct a research. Carefully note all the suggestions anyone gives you but don’t overweigh them, believe in your instincts and knowledge. Plagiarism is an important and an ongoing process so doesn’t leave it for the end. The resources you use should be credible but that doesn’t mean you overlook any references you can use.

PRIMARY RESEARCH

The method of generating information which was never published before is known as primary research. There are numerous ways to conduct a primary research. Interview people with established credibility and socialize directly with homogenous/heterogeneous groups of people or indirectly by using questionnaires/social surveys. This type of research will take you places if you can generate some original information.

SECONDARY RESEARCH

Using information which was gathered by others through their primary research is called secondary research. It is based on the information collected from sources that already exist. It could be government agencies, chambers of commerce, trade associations or individuals.

This kind of information can be found in printed sources i.e. magazines, books, etc or electronic sources i.e. compact disks, online services, etc. You can contradict or second the research of another scholar but make sure that the reason is not idealistic but logical. Praising another published work without your own primary research can be risky. It can bring you embarrassment instead of praise. Sometimes if you are unlucky, during secondary research you might find that a research has already been done on your topic. “Late but not too late”

ANALYZE THE INFORMATION

When you are done with research and gathered all the information and you don’t know how to prioritize, arrange or analyze It, you start looking for a dissertation guide. Use your project outline to create questions and then search for the answers to them. Answer all possible questions. You can write your data analyses in a way which is interesting to read and easy to understand. Follow a step by step format. Explain everything in detail. Use facts, statistics and values. That’s about everything a dissertation writing guide will tell you about research and analysis.

2½. REVIEW AND CONCLUSION

Everybody can see the bigger picture but is that enough? NO. Very few people notice micro details and that makes them distinguished. This automatically reduces the level of competition you face. The reason I am saying this in this dissertation guide is that most scholars towards the end ignore how important a carefully devised conclusion is for their dissertation.

Most people just look at the introduction and conclusion to get an overview of the content. If they don’t like it they simply switch. So conclusion is important. Also important is that you review your work again and again and don’t let a minor mistake disarray all your efforts. Review chapter by chapter and ensure a constant flow. Proofreading is another option.

Never include any findings or arguments in the conclusion that are not reflected in content. Always answer the questions you have posed in your thesis statement. Summarize the key findings of your research. Pointing out the difficulties which you have faced during the research will add to your credibility, as you will be accepting the limitations of your research.
